Good Pop-Up vs Bad Pop-Up After the NCLEX

Does the Pearson Vue Trick Really Work?

If you’ve just taken the NCLEX, first of all—congratulations on making it through one of the most intense exams of your life! 🎉 But now, you’re stuck in the waiting game, refreshing your email and checking your state’s board of nursing website every five minutes. Sound familiar?
If you’ve been Googling things like “good pop-up vs bad pop-up NCLEX”, chances are you’ve heard of the Pearson Vue Trick (PVT)—that infamous method nursing students everywhere use to try and find out if they passed before the official results drop.
But what exactly is the good pop-up? What’s the bad pop-up? And can you really trust this method? Let’s break it down.

What Is the Pearson Vue Trick (PVT)?
The Pearson Vue Trick is an unofficial “hack” that NCLEX test-takers use to predict whether they passed or failed the exam.
Here’s how it works:
  1. After finishing your NCLEX, wait until your test status says “Delivery Successful” on your Pearson Vue account. This usually takes a few hours.
  2. Once it says “Delivery Successful,” try to register for the NCLEX again on the Pearson Vue website.
  3. Based on the pop-up message you receive, people believe they can predict if they passed.
Sounds pretty wild, right? But for thousands of nursing students, this little trick gives them some peace of mind—at least temporarily.

What Is the Good Pop-Up After the NCLEX?
If you attempt to register for the NCLEX again and you get this message:
“Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time.”
Congratulations! That’s what’s known as the good pop-up.
Many people believe the good pop-up means you passed the NCLEX. In most cases, when people get this message, they find out later that they did indeed pass. It’s like the universe giving you a tiny high-five after all that studying.

What Is the Bad Pop-Up After the NCLEX?
Now, if you try to re-register and Pearson Vue lets you go all the way to the payment page to enter your credit card info—uh oh. That’s what’s called the bad pop-up.
In theory, the bad pop-up means that your test didn’t pass the scoring algorithm and the system is allowing you to pay to retake the exam.
But here’s the important thing: 👉 It’s not 100% accurate.
There are people who got the bad pop-up and STILL passed the NCLEX. So, don’t throw your whole nursing career away based on this one glitchy website test.

Does the Pearson Vue Trick Actually Work?
Here’s the truth: The Pearson Vue Trick is popular for a reason. Most of the time, it seems to line up with people’s actual results. If you get the good pop-up, it’s generally a great sign. But there are always exceptions.
I’ve heard stories like:
  • “I got the good pop-up, and I passed!” ✅
  • “I got the bad pop-up and still passed!” 😅
  • “I got the good pop-up… but failed.” 😭 (Super rare but it happens.)
There are so many technical things happening behind the scenes with Pearson Vue, scoring, and test delivery that it’s impossible to say the PVT is 100% reliable.

So… Should You Do the Pearson Vue Trick After the NCLEX?
If it’s going to help calm your nerves, sure! Just keep these things in mind:
  • Wait until your status says Delivery Successful before trying the PVT.
  • Don’t try it over and over again. Once or twice is enough.
  • Take the results with a grain of salt. It’s not the official word.
  • Focus on your mental health. You’ve been through enough already.
And if your state offers Quick Results (usually available 48 hours after testing for a small fee), that’s going to give you a much more accurate answer than the PVT ever could.

What To Do After the NCLEX (While You Wait for Results)
Instead of spiraling into a PVT rabbit hole, here are a few things you can do after the NCLEX:
✅ Rest and recharge. You deserve it.
✅ Catch up on sleep and self-care.
✅ Plan your next steps, whether that’s job hunting or preparing to retest.

✅ Remember, one test does not define you.

Final Thoughts on the Good Pop-Up vs Bad Pop-Up After the NCLEX
At the end of the day, the only results that matter are the official ones from your state board of nursing. The good pop-up vs bad pop-up debate will probably live on forever in the nursing world, but don’t let it steal your peace.
You’ve worked hard, you made it to this point, and no matter the outcome, your journey as a nurse is just beginning.
